Many people stress to just go into the skill directly but for many people it’s better to start with proper strength training first and then skill training for the Front Lever.
The time it takes to learn a front lever varies widely based on several factors. It can 3 months and it can take 3 years. Your starting strength and fitness level play a big role; if you already have a strong foundation in upper body and core strength, you might progress faster. Beginners will need more time to build these important muscles. Regular practice is necessary, and training 3-5 times a week can lead to faster progress compared to irregular training. Proper technique and gradual progression through easier exercises like tuck front lever, advanced tuck, and one-leg front lever help in building the necessary strength and control. Muscles need time to recover and grow stronger, so making sure you get enough rest between workouts can prevent injury and improve performance. A balanced diet and sufficient sleep support muscle growth and recovery, which are vital for achieving challenging exercises like the front lever.
The front lever really works your abs, along with other core muscles. You need a strong core to hold that horizontal position, which helps build and define your abs. But Front Lever works mostly the lats.
There isn’t a strict number of pull-ups that guarantees you can do a front lever. However, being able to do 10-15 strict pull-ups with good form is a good indicator that you have a solid foundation of upper body strength necessary for front lever training.

I’ve earned numerous world titles, including winning the World Championship in Moscow, Russia in 2021. I also took first place in the Street Workout Ultimate Battles and Calisthenics Cup competitions in 2022 and 2023, and was the Vice World Champion in Moscow in 2019. In 2019, I secured second place in the World Cup in Hong Kong, and in 2020, I became the national champion in Bulgaria.
